In the kiosk model the web browser is located on the same machine as the web server. This gives the surfer at the kiosk machine the quickest response, and the resources of a dedicated web application. The web application then goes out over the network as needed, to work with the database server, which is then shared by hundreds or thousands of kiosks. With the kiosk model, you can dedicate high-end hardware to the busiest kiosks and use moderate-level equipment for the rest.
