HREF TOOLS ANNOUNCES WEBHUB v1.50

HREF Tools Corp. releases v1.50 of the core WebHub VCL technology for Internet and Intranet application development. WebHub includes a web process controller and a suite of web site creation components.

Santa Rosa, CA June 15, 1998 HREF Tools Corp. today announced immediate availability of the 1.50 version of the WebHub VCL, along with corresponding updates to the full WebHub product line. The new features benefit webmasters and VCL programmers during development and "live" production, enhancing security, performance and usability.

New Features for Webmasters

  • Ability to access COM and DCOM objects from WebHub-HTML macros.
  • New advertisement rotation component.
  • New security component for managing user names, passwords and account status for sites requiring login/logout. Automatic logout after a period of inactivity is optional.
  • New debug mode for tracing through WebHub-HTML macro calls.
  • New HTML Preview mode for testing sites quickly without using a web browser.
  • New web browser information component, enabling customized pages that include sections of HTML or Javascript based on browser capability.
  • New and extended macros, including if|else scripting and form input shortcuts.
  • HTML editor with color syntax highlighting and code templates.
  • Support for dynamic parameterized HTML templates.
  • Form to email without programming; supports form letters with fill-ins based on any macro, and activity logging.
  • "Branding" of static HTML files for the seamless integration of static pages into stateful sites.
  • Complete new user manual, "WebHub Power HTML Guide", for non-programmers.

  • Reusable, "snap together" panel technology for rapid creation of custom web application servers with instant yet full-featured user interfaces. WebHub Wizard creates complete projects from shared panels, forms and data modules.
  • New SendFileIIS method to make downloadable files available with dynamic names and/or content, for secure software delivery.
  • Enhanced security : optional monitoring for IP number and web browser changes within a single session.
  • Transparent support for cookie based session numbers.
  • New TwhdbForm component for automatic creation of data-entry forms based on database records.
  • Support for HTPP head/get requests.
  • Dataset cloning for enabling single user coding techniques in multi-user web-applications.
  • New TwhDropDown component for quick drop-down lists.
  • Recognition of Cold Fusion and Microsoft FrontPage tags.
  • Event handler lists to enable plug-and-play injection of event handlers into existing code.
  • Full compatibility with COM, DCOM and Microsoft Transaction server objects
  • 100+ new utility procedures.

New Features for Production Use

  • Enhancements to scalability within web server clusters through new load-balancer support modes.
  • Ability to echo the same command to all instances of a custom process -- for example, to simultaneously reload changed HTML files.
  • Storage of surfer session data within nested subdirectories for lightning fast shared access to thousands of session files.
  • The ability to run the Hub as an NT service. WebHub VCL units are available to make any custom application server run as a service.
  • WebHub VCL packages for use with Delphi 3 and 4 enabling up to three times more parallel instances to run on the same machine as without packages.
  • No BDE dependencies in the primary package.
  • Lower resource requirements: fewer mandatory menu items; user interface panels are now optional.
  • New "WebHub Coolness Layer" add-on for ISAPI makes a dynamic site look static to spiders and casual observers.

Pricing and Availability

The WebHub VCL Developer Bundle costs $365 for a single developer. Hub licenses cost $95 to $1,955 per additional server, depending on the number of application instances. The WebHub Shopping Cart Jump Start Package costs $219 per developer. WebHub Power HTML (no VCL) costs $195 and includes a 1-process Hub and a generic application server. Upgrades to version 1.50 are free to registered users of WebHub v1.10+.

WebHub VCL 1.50 for Delphi 2 and 3 is shipping June 15, 1998. WebHub VCL v1.60 will ship for Delphi 4.

Product Requirements

WebHub v1.50 requires Windows NT 3.51+ and a Windows NT web server such as Microsoft IIS 1+ or OReilly WebSite 1+. The WebHub VCL components require a 32-bit version of Delphi. The client/server edition of Delphi is not required.
